The Liposuction Procedure

At our offices in the Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C., area, liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and/or IV sedation. During the liposuction procedure, a narrow tube called a cannula is placed in a small surgical incision in the treatment area. The cannula is connected to a vacuum mechanism. The cosmetic surgeon then manipulates the cannula to break up and extract areas of fat.

Ultrasonic Assisted Liposculpture

Ultrasonic Assisted Liposculpture is becoming popular with some of our liposuction patients. This new and gentler liposuction technology, also known as UAL, utilizes sound waves to "break up" or "liquefy" fat. The fat is then removed through a suction cannula. Most modern liposculpture today is performed via a combination of traditional liposuction, UAL and Power Assisted Liposculpt. The use of UAL requires special additional equipment and training. The recovery is quicker and easier and the results are more dramatic. Our cosmetic surgeons now offer this form of liposuction at our Maryland offices.
